Advanced Analysis - Dummy Factors:

Try this example only when you become comfortable with MetaCause Analysis. One or more dummy factors are introduced in addition to a factor if its scatter diagram can be divided into groups/clusters in more than one way. One dummy factor is introduced to represent each additional division of the scatter diagram. Note that in this example values for response cold shuts are discrete (Yes/No).

Note that Main Effects Report account for interactions among all responses and quantify the influence of each factor on each response. Interactions report account for interactions among all factors by taking into account interactions among all responses and quantify factor interactions in pairs for each response. You need to take account of these assumptions while interpreting the effect of dummy factors in MetaCause Reports.

Main Effect Reports assume interactions among all responses. Hence, you must not introduce dummy responses (similar to dummy factors) in MetaCause analysis.

1

Download Data in Excel 2002-2007 Format
(i) Download your data data into Excel format with headings 'observation number' in the first column, corresponding factor names in subsequent columns, one column blank followed by response names.
View Production Data (Excel format)

2 Convert Data in MetaCause Format
(i) Download MetaCause Data Conversion template to convert data prepared in step two into MetaCause format and follow instructions given in cells M1-M6
(ii) Study scatter diagrams to decide threshold levels for Factor settings.
(iii) Note the use of dummy factors for Ambient Temperature and Dead Clay factors.
(iv) Download MetaCause Upload file and follow instructions given in cells M7-M8 of theMetaCause Data Conversion template
(v) View Dummy Factor Data Conversion Template (Excel format)
(vi) View Dummy Factor Data Upload File (Excel format)
3

MetaCause Analysis and Main Effects Report
(i) Click 'Open File' and load your version of 'Dummy Factor Upload File' in .xls format (Excel 2002-2007 version)
(ii) Click 'Run Report' to generate the Main Effects Report
